What Interns Are Saying
Spending the summer in Washington, DC interning at Captstone National Partners, LLC was an immensely rewarding experience- there were many memorable moments that stood out! Having the opportunity to hear Colin Powell speak at the Memorial Day ceremony in front of the capitol during my first weekend in town was certainly a highlight. I was fortunate to contribute on several important projects at Capstone as well, from arraigning client meeting with Armed Services Committee members to discuss Navy F-35 West Cost home-basing, to the set-up and demonstration of the USC Institute for Creative Technology’s “Bravemind” PTSD virtually reality therapy simulator for several members of congress. If you are seeking adventures and real-world experiences with the like-minded, driven individuals, WISH Internships can make that happen!
My most memorable moment while interning would be the day we toured the Capitol and got our picture taken with John Boehner. My experience working for the RNC taught me several important skills I will take with me in my future endeavors. Some of which include teamwork, leadership, and responsibility. Overall I really enjoyed touring the city with students of different backgrounds and experiences. It gave me an opportunity to look at things in a different light and most importantly I developed friendships with other students I will never forget.
My most memorable moment while interning had to have been when I was able to attend theRoundtable’s Inaugural Party. It was the first time I had ever seen the President of the United States and the First Lady of the United States literally feet away! It was a memorable experience because the thought of having been so close to two people with such influence and authority made me feel honored to be working in Washington D.C.
Participating in WISH Program through Bloomfield College was one of the best experiences of my student life. Being so closely situated to the power outlets of the United States and having a chance to intern at the European Institute, a leading transatlantic public policy organization, provided me with the necessary experiences and knowledge to continue to path a career in Foreign Service. I would recommend WISH Internships for anyone who is looking for affordability, adventure, and simply great time!
Interning at the International Rescue Committee for the spring 2013 semester was a rewarding and meaningful experience. I was given the unique opportunity to serve refugees who made the United States their new home. The moments I treasure most were learning about their stories, and witnessing their resilience in spite of their struggles. It speaks to the endurance of human nature and I will take this lesson with me into my practice as a nurse.
During my semester in DC, I interned at the the Financial Services Roundtable’s Housing Policy Council, I lived on the Hill, and I met the greatest people, mentors, and friends. I fell in love with Washington, DC-historical sites, Metro system, Eastern Market, cherry blossom festivities and all, but I realized how great of a city it was when I felt the empowering sense of community and patriotism during the 2013 Presidential Inauguration. The energy and enthusiasm I saw in others throughout that day will be a constant reminder to me of how proud I am to be an American.
Internship: Financial Services Roundtable
My most memorable experience while interning at the Financial Services Roundtable was definitely the many fundraiser breakfasts at the office for members of Congress. Getting to listen to Congressmen and women speak to a small room about the political landscape and their future plans was such a unique and interesting experience!
I had an absolutely phenomenal experience this past summer in Washington D.C. I was fortunate enough to work in the Office of U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman. While there, I got to help in the press department, assist in legislative research, manage constituent communication, complete a historical project over previous Congressmen from Indiana, and attend many informative briefings. However, my absolute favorite moment came my last week in D.C., where I got to attend a press conference outside the Capitol Building discussing defunding Obamacare. The main speakers were Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Mike Less and Congressman Stutzman, amongst others. It was fascinating getting to stand within feet of some of our national leaders discussing such a heated issue as health care.
